Kythnos a \u00e9t\u00e9 baptis\u00e9e ainsi en r\u00e9f\u00e9rence au fils du dieu Apollon et roi mythique des Dryopes, premiers habitants de l\u2019\u00eele dans l\u2019Antiquit\u00e9 (XIVe<\/sup> si\u00e8cle av. J.-C.). Son ancien nom, Thermia, faisait r\u00e9f\u00e9rence \u00e0 ses c\u00e9l\u00e8bres sources thermales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

La capitale de l\u2019\u00eele, Chora, aussi appel\u00e9e Mesaria, est dot\u00e9e\u2019 d\u2019un caract\u00e8re cycladique marqu\u00e9 avec ses ruelles pav\u00e9es, ses tavernes, ses caf\u00e9s et ses p\u00e2tisseries. Vient ensuite Dryopida, ou Chorio, village connu pour ses maisons \u00e0 l\u2019architecture unique, ses arcades caract\u00e9ristiques, ses ruelles pittoresques et ses anciennes \u00e9glises. En parlant d\u2019\u00e9glises, il convient de mentionner que l\u2019\u00eele compte 130 chapelles diss\u00e9min\u00e9es sur toute son \u00e9tendue. L\u2019\u00e9glise la plus importante est sans aucun doute celle de Panagia Kanala, situ\u00e9e dans le village c\u00f4tier \u00e9ponyme. Son ic\u00f4ne miraculeuse, un chef-d\u2019\u0153uvre de l\u2019\u00c9cole cr\u00e9toise, a \u00e9t\u00e9 peinte en 1575 par le pr\u00eatre Emmanuel Skordilis. Selon la tradition, des p\u00eacheurs de l\u2019\u00eele auraient remont\u00e9 cette ic\u00f4ne dans leurs filets, et c\u2019est ainsi qu\u2019en 1869, l\u2019\u00e9glise actuelle fut construite \u00e0 l\u2019emplacement d\u2019un ancien sanctuaire.
Autre village c\u00f4tier, Loutra, r\u00e9put\u00e9 pour ses sources thermales, les seules des Cyclades, ainsi que pour son \u00e9tablissement d\u2019hydroth\u00e9rapie encore en activit\u00e9 aujourd\u2019hui. Les plans architecturaux de ses installations sont l\u2019\u0153uvre de Christian Hansen et de son assistant Laurent, ce dernier ayant \u00e9galement supervis\u00e9 l\u2019ex\u00e9cution du projet. \u00c0 tr\u00e8s courte distance se trouve l\u2019important site m\u00e9solithique de Maroulas, consid\u00e9r\u00e9 comme la plus ancienne colonie de peuplement insulaire de la mer \u00c9g\u00e9e. Le troisi\u00e8me village c\u00f4tier est le principal port de l\u2019\u00eele, Merichas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kythnos offre une multitude de plages aux eaux limpides, agr\u00e9ment\u00e9es de l\u2019ombre naturelle des tamaris. La plus c\u00e9l\u00e8bre est Kolona, spectaculaire car un banc de sable divise la mer en deux, formant ainsi deux magnifiques plages de sable. Les seules plages am\u00e9nag\u00e9es de l\u2019\u00eele sont Episkopi, Apokrisi et Martiniakia, tandis que les plages de la c\u00f4te sud-est, comme Ga\u00efdouromandra et Simousi, sont id\u00e9ales pour les amateurs de tranquillit\u00e9. En parcourant Chora dans toutes les directions, vous d\u00e9couvrirez de superbes plages, parmi lesquelles Agios Dimitrios, Megali Ammos, Ammoudaki et Agios Stefanos. Enfin, le c\u0153ur de l\u2019\u00eele abrite la grotte de Katafyki, qui m\u00e9rite une visite.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gastronomie<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kythnos offre un riche \u00e9ventail de produits locaux et de recettes traditionnelles. Le miel de thym occupe une place de choix, avec sa forte concentration en thym, qui en fait l\u2019un des plus savoureux et nutritifs au monde. Il entre dans la pr\u00e9paration des c\u00e9l\u00e8bres amygdalota<\/em> (confiseries aux amandes) et du d\u00e9licieux pasteli<\/em> (nougat au s\u00e9same et au miel).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Juste apr\u00e8s, sur la carte des saveurs locales, se trouvent divers fromages, comme le xino, un fromage frais non sal\u00e9, le trima, plus sal\u00e9 et au go\u00fbt plus acidul\u00e9, ainsi que la f\u00e9ta et la c\u00e9l\u00e8bre kopanist\u00ed<\/em>. Le fromage local accompagne chaque mets traditionnel de l\u2019\u00eele, tout comme le vin de pays. \u00c0 Kythnos, vous trouverez \u00e9galement des saucisses, des c\u00e2pres, et il est impensable de repartir sans avoir go\u00fbt\u00e9 au porc, \u00e0 la strapatsada<\/em> aux courgettes ou encore aux poissons s\u00e9ch\u00e9s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Les recettes embl\u00e9matiques incluent la thermiotiki tyropita<\/em>, une tourte au fromage garnie des fromages locaux, et le sfoungato<\/em>, une sorte de croquette fourr\u00e9e de xino ou de trima. Les diff\u00e9rentes sortes de tourtes occupent bien entendu une place importante, avec notamment la thermiotiki chortopita<\/em>, une tourte aux herbes sauvages locales, r\u00e9put\u00e9e pour sa saveur et ses ar\u00f4mes. Kythnos entretient un lien ancestral avec le vin. Bien que la viticulture ait \u00e9t\u00e9 mise en retrait pendant plusieurs ann\u00e9es, elle est d\u00e9sormais relanc\u00e9e par des passionn\u00e9s qui redonnent vie aux c\u00e9pages autochtones, notamment le c\u00e9l\u00e8bre psarosyriko, un vin rouge local.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
