Thanks to an EU programme, farmers in Greece and other EU countries will have access to a digital educational platform that will include a wide array of cutting-edge technologies to modernise greenhouses. This project aims to contribute to the modernisation and transformation of greenhouses into high-tech units, increasing efficiency of cultivation and economic potential in the face of shifting market conditions and environmental challenges. As such, the platform will facilitate adoption of innovation by existing and aspiring EU farmers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The platform will present a wide array of cutting-edge technologies, including digitisation, automation based on Internet of Things (IoT) technologies, micro-climate control, irrigation\/fertilisation techniques, hydroponics, renewable energy source (RES) applications, high added (industrial) value greenhouse products, circular economy, etc., adapted to the soil and climate conditions of the Mediterranean basin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The project will also make use of:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u2022 Asynchronous distance learning technologies: Flexible, individualised learning, adapted to farmers\u2019 needs and available time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u2022 Educational material: Presentations (powerpoint) and videos in 7 languages, accompanying educational material (simulation models, etc.).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u2022 Evaluation questionnaires: Granting of attendance certificates for each Module.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u2022 Field training within the framework of the new research project will be provided through augmented\/virtual reality techniques and interactive lessons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Two groups of trainees <\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The programme will provide training to two different groups: a) 1st tier trainees, such as personnel and researchers at HEIs\/research centres, intermediary agricultural sector trainers, representatives of local and regional authorities tasked with agricultural development; and b) 2nd tier trainees, such as farmers and students. Responses to the services provided by the platform have been positive among both tiers. First-tier trainees (personnel and researchers at HEIs, intermediary agricultural sector trainers, etc.) have expressed interest in the capabilities the platform offers to improve their skills and bolster their knowledge. Second-tier trainees (farmers, producers and students) have shown enthusiasm for the hands-on, adaptable nature of the content, as well as the access to modern technologies that they can apply to their own units.
