Die Geschichte des Anbaus des Olivenbaums in Griechenland geht bis auf pr\u00e4historische Zeit zur\u00fcck, hierzu finden sich vor etwa 6000&nbsp;Jahren Hinweise darauf auf der Insel Kreta, sowohl durch den Pollen der Pflanze als auch durch andere \u00dcberreste wie Holz und, in manchen F\u00e4llen, Kerne. Oliven\u00f6l scheint w\u00e4hrend der Bronzezeit in den Gesellschaften der S\u00fcd\u00e4g\u00e4is in S\u00fcdgriechenland eine sehr wichtige Rolle gespielt zu haben. Bereits im minoischen Kreta wurde Oliven\u00f6l in speziellen Gef\u00e4\u00dfen, Amphoren mit falscher \u00d6ffnung, auf den Handelsrouten des Mittelmeers gehandelt, was sich auch in der darauffolgenden mykenischen Zeit fortsetzte. Nach mehreren Jahrhunderten Anbau, findet sich der Olivenbaum in Linear-B-Ideogrammen wieder, sowohl als Wildpflanze als auch als Kulturpflanze. Sein \u00d6l hat ein eigenes Ideogramm, das in Produktlisten auftaucht, die f\u00fcr Rituale an Heiligt\u00fcmer geschickt werden. Das \u00d6l des wilden Olivenbaums hatte ebenfalls ein eigenes Ideogramm und wurde in der Parf\u00fcmerie der mykenischen Pal\u00e4ste eingesetzt.<br><br>Im antiken Griechenland wurde Oliven\u00f6l weiterhin in rituellen Zusammenh\u00e4ngen verwendet und galt als besonders teurer Luxusartikel. So hatte zum Beispiel der Preis der Panathen\u00e4ischen Spiele, das Oliven\u00f6l in den Amphoren, einen hohen wirtschaftlichen Wert. Das \u00d6l in den Preisamphoren der Panathen\u00e4ischen Spiele stammte von heiligen Oliven, die von Zeus Morios besch\u00fctzt wurden. Diese Oliven wurden <em>Moriai<\/em> genannt und dieses Wort findet sich im 5.&nbsp;Jahrhundert v.&nbsp;Chr. in den Werken von Aristophanes und Lysias.<br><br>Der Einsatz von Oliven\u00f6l als Nahrungsmittel in der Antike ist in verschiedenen Texten belegt. So wird in den V\u00f6geln des Aristophanes (4.\u20133.&nbsp;Jahrhundert v.&nbsp;Chr.) auf das \u00d6l verwiesen, das zusammen mit anderen Zutaten \u00fcber gebratene V\u00f6gel gegossen wird, die auf den Tisch gebracht wurden. In einem anderen Fall r\u00e4t Hippokrates im Krankheitsfall, Fisch zu backen oder zu kochen, mit Oregano zu bestreuen und mit \u00d6l zu \u00fcbergie\u00dfen und eine \u00e4hnliche Verwendung findet sich auch bei Archestratus (4.&nbsp;Jahrhundert v.&nbsp;Chr.) in einem Rezept. Wir vermuten, dass verschiedene Teige in der Antike, wie zum Beispiel Pfannkuchen, in Oliven\u00f6l gebraten wurden, aber auch der Begriff \u201e<em>zeseleopagis<\/em>\u201c, den der Dichter Philoxenos (5.\u20134.&nbsp;Jahrhundert v.&nbsp;Chr.) erw\u00e4hnt, deutet darauf hin. Au\u00dferdem wurde \u00d6l auch zur Konservierung von Lebensmitteln wie zum Beispiel Fisch verwendet und ein Hinweis darauf findet sich im \u201e\u00dcber verschiedene und mannigfaltige Nahrungsmittel\u201c des Pseudo-Hippokrates. Auch wird Oliven\u00f6l im hippokratischen Corpus sehr h\u00e4ufig als Zutat in therapeutischen Rezepten sowie im Rahmen der Ern\u00e4hrung von Patienten
