Die Getreidesorten Weizen und Gerste waren und sind Grundbestandteile der Ern\u00e4hrung der Bewohner Griechenlands und des Mittelmeerraums im Allgemeinen. Arch\u00e4obotanische Funde belegen das Vorkommen aller Weizenarten \u00fcber mehrere Jahrtausende, w\u00e4hrend antike Texte ein Bild von Backwaren bereitstellen, teils weit verbreitet und allt\u00e4glich, teils f\u00fcr besondere, religi\u00f6se und gesellschaftliche Anl\u00e4sse bestimmt, wie beispielsweise spezielle Brote, die im Rahmen der Verehrung einer Gottheit oder nur f\u00fcr eine Hochzeitszeremonie zubereitet wurden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Unter den Broten, die f\u00fcr ein Bankett aus dem 6. Jahrhundert v. Chr. fanden sich auch Brote mit Leinsamen. Der Dichter Alkman beschreibt in den Versen eines seiner Gedichte \u00fcppiges Geb\u00e4ck, das auf sieben Tischen serviert wurde und f\u00fcr einen festlichen Anlass bestimmt war, wahrscheinlich f\u00fcr eine Hochzeit. Hinzu kamen Brote mit Mohn und kleine Br\u00f6tchen mit Honig f\u00fcr kleine Kinder, die am Bankett teilnahmen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Abgesehen von dieser Erw\u00e4hnung gibt es in antiken Texten allerdings nur sehr wenige Hinweise auf Flachs als Nahrungsmittel, und in den Listen beliebter und verbreiteter Nahrungsmittel, die in komischer Poesie zu finden sind, fehlt er als Nahrungsmittel ganz. Dies, gemeinsam mit der Erw\u00e4hnung von Leinsamen durch Galen (2. Jahrhundert v. Chr.) als schwer verdaulich und wenig nahrhaft, l\u00e4sst uns dies glauben, dass Flachs nicht zu den Grundnahrungsmitteln im antiken Griechenland geh\u00f6rte. Andererseits wird in den hippokratischen Texten (5.\u20134. Jahrhundert v. Chr.) h\u00e4ufig auf Leinsamen in feuchten Umschl\u00e4gen oder in Getr\u00e4nken Bezug genommen, da er als nahrhaft, adstringierend und erfrischend gilt. Zusammen mit dem Hinweis auf Hochzeitsbrote mit Leinsamen stellt dies ein weiteres Bild von Leinsamen in den vier Jahrhunderten vor Galen bereit. Ebenso wie der Hinweis auf gemahlenen Leinsamen beim antiken Historiker Thukydides (5. Jahrhundert v. Chr.) im Zusammenhang mit dem Archidamischen Krieg: W\u00e4hrend der Blockade der Spartaner auf der Insel Sphakteria transportierten die Heloten unter Lebensgefahr gemahlenen Leinsamen und mit Honig ges\u00fc\u00dften Mohn in S\u00e4cken.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Es scheint, dass Leinsamen im antiken Griechenland als nahrhafte Zutat galt und mit Honig gegessen oder mit Mehl geknetet als Brot gegessen wurde. Aus pr\u00e4historischer Zeit ist das Vorkommen von Flachs durch verkohlte Leinsamen bekannt, die in Siedlungen sowohl in Nord- als auch in S\u00fcdgriechenland in gro\u00dfen Mengen und in reiner Konzentration gefunden wurden. Heutzutage scheint Flachs nicht l\u00e4nger als Zutat in der traditionellen griechischen K\u00fcche zu gelten, wenngleich Brot mit Leinsamen durchaus hergestellt und verkauft wird.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
