Noch bevor sie domestiziert wurden, waren Linsen Bestandteil der Ern\u00e4hrung der J\u00e4ger und Sammler, die vor etwa 11.000 Jahren in der H\u00f6hle von Franchthi in der Argolis lebten, ehe in der Jungsteinzeit die ersten agrarischen Gemeinschaften entstanden. Linsensamen, die zur\u00fcck bis ins 7. Jahrtausend v. Chr. datiert wurden, geh\u00f6ren zu den h\u00e4ufigsten Funden bei Ausgrabungen neolithischer Siedlungen in Griechenland. Auch in arch\u00e4ologischen Funden aus den letzten Jahrtausenden der Vorgeschichte, der Bronzezeit, vom Ende des 4. Jahrtausends v. Chr. bis zum Ende dieses Zeitalters, wurden immer wieder Linsensamen entdeckt. F\u00fcr vergangene Epochen gibt es eine beeindruckende Vielzahl von Erw\u00e4hnungen der Linse, ihrer Sorten und Zubereitungsarten. Wie wir aus einem Text von Phainias schlie\u00dfen k\u00f6nnen, den Athenaios in seinen \u201eDeipnosophistai\u201c \u00fcberliefert, wurden Linsen entweder als Suppe mit dem Namen \u201eFaki\u201c oder als dickfl\u00fcssiger Brei zubereitet. Letzterer wurde in der Antike \u201eEtnos\u201c genannt, im Falle von Linsen \u201eFakinon Etnos\u201c. F\u00fcr das Servieren dieses Breis gab es sogar eine spezielle Kelle, wie der antike Kom\u00f6diendichter Aristophanes berichtet. In der antiken griechischen Kom\u00f6die findet die Linse sehr h\u00e4ufig Erw\u00e4hnung; sie scheint ein allt\u00e4gliches Nahrungsmittel gewesen zu sein. Spezielle Backwaren, die zusammen mit Linsensuppe gegessen wurden, wurden \u201eGouroi\u201c genannt, wie der Dichter Solon in seinen Gedichten aus dem 7.\/6. Jahrhundert v. Chr. erw\u00e4hnt. Antike Gerichte auf Linsenbasis hie\u00dfen beispielsweise \u201eFakoptisani\u201c und \u201eVolvofaki\u201c. Dar\u00fcber hinaus f\u00fchrt ein Papyrusfragment eine S\u00fc\u00dfspeise aus Linsen namens \u201eLaganofaki\u201c an. Der antike Dichter Sopatros spricht von einem Brot aus Linsen, das in Alexandria in \u00c4gypten sehr beliebt war. Linsenmehl war in der Antike nicht nur Bestandteil von Brot, sondern fand auch medizinische Verwendung \u2013 wie Linsen allgemein, die laut Hippokrates verschiedenen Heilmitteln zugef\u00fcgt wurden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Die antiken griechischen Texte, seien es Kom\u00f6dien oder medizinische Schriften, enthalten zahlreiche Verweise auf Linsen und belegen, dass diese H\u00fclsenfrucht bereits seit der Fr\u00fchgeschichte in der griechischen K\u00fcche ihren festen Platz hat. Diese besondere Vorliebe setzt sich f\u00fcr viele Griechen bis heute fort. Die Linsensuppe <em>Faki<\/em>, die seit der griechischen Antike denselben Namen tr\u00e4gt, ist in der griechisch-orthodoxen Tradition eines der Grundgerichte der Fastenzeit.
